Labour and Productivity Measurement Software

Productivity measurement in warehouses raises fulfilment proficiency to the highest level by monitoring direct and indirect labour, as well as providing feedback to workers and management as activities are completed.

Bolt on productivity measurement and reporting software offers the best of both worlds and the ability to measure productivity at a variety of levels for all tasks in your DC regardless of the warehouse management system or order management system you are operating.

Since the late 1990´s; bolt on applications have been used by both grocery and non grocery companies across the world to generate KPI´s, Reasonable Expectancies (RE´s) and fully engineered standards for a wide range of warehouse activities. Typically, these activities include all selection and fork work as well as traditionally indirect work such as receiving, loading and unloading and even de-stuffing shipping containers.

Until recently, most engineered standards systems used in warehousing were integral to the warehouse management system that a company was using at the time. Unfortunately, the number of warehouse management systems on the market which offered accurate or discreet labour standards was very few. The issue of accessing standards was complicated further by the fact that many companies already had a warehouse management system in place that they were committed to and could not readily change for the sake of accessing the benefits of engineered standards.

This all changed nearly four years ago with the advent of bolt on productivity measurement and reporting packages. There are a number of these modules on the market this time. Should you wish to know more about the assorted products that are now available, please contact S&V via the link below and we would be happy to discuss what options best suit you and your company.

Enterprise Reporting Software

Companies need information to manage their business, especially where their supply chains that stretch across many sites and activities. Often the information that is used is inaccurate, inconsistent, incomplete and untimely because of the cumbersome and outdated methods that are used to compile reports.

It is now possible for management to have timely access to consistent, meaningful metrics across their enterprise to detect and analyse performance issues in order to take immediate corrective action, as well as initiate and monitor continuous improvement programs.

These reporting systems provide management with real-time access to a wide range of industry best practice and user-defined key performance indicators (KPIs) across the enterprise to make information analysis simple and routine. The reports and types of information are readily user-definable and data can be aggregated at any level of the organisation and views of the data made specific to each user.

Time and Attendance

Many companies with large workforces have implemented time clock systems for payroll accounting, but these are rarely integrated to labour management systems to provide a total picture of operations. For example, they cannot account for the time latency between when an employee clocks in at the front door and when they actually begin working. The same is true before and after lunch and other breaks, if these are clocked at all.

Combining Time and Attendance with Productivity Measurement provides a single view of each individual´s performance, including all direct and indirect time, removing the blinders from latency and other non-productive time. Since companies without advanced labour management solutions on average experience 75 minutes of unproductive time per employee eight hour shift, the potential for savings is enormous.

Beyond time and attendance tracking, having accurate information on direct and indirect time enables more accurate workforce planning to match resources with requirements based on daily order types and volumes. It also enables workforce simulation for new orders and seasonal shifts in demand.

Transportation Packages

Prospering in today´s global markets requires a supply chain that is fully efficient at all levels including transportation. Transportation logistics must be responsive to and recognise the dynamics of order flow in order to continually improve productivity, cost savings and on-time delivery. The objective of any transport network should be to optimise the fulfilment of orders with the least-cost transportation mode using the most suitable carrier and routing.

A transport module should take into account a variety of factors to ensure the best return for your company. Factors used to provide the optimum solution include; changing capacities and constraints, carrier contracts, capacity and performance, trade regulations and costs, customer requirements and service windows, load consolidation, multi-modal, multi-national moves, cross dock and merge-in transit - to name a few!
